Paying for Allswell Therapy With Sentara Insurance
Finding affirming, trauma-informed therapy with a provider that you feel safe with can be difficult, and finding therapy you can actually afford can be yet another barrier. Allswell was founded to provide accessible, virtual LGBTQ+ therapy, rooted in trauma-informed care.
If you have the Sentara Community Plan, Virginia's Medicaid managed care plan, you may be able to access Allswell therapy at little to no out-of-pocket cost. We're here to help you understand what to expect and how to get started.
Does Sentara Community Plan Cover Online Therapy?
Yes, the Sentara Community Plan covers online therapy. Under federal mental health parity laws, members can access virtual mental health care just like in-person care.Β
Online therapy can be a key factor in finding a therapist who fits your needs, no matter what area you live in. Allswell helps to bridge the gap between LGBTQ+ folks and therapists who know how to support them.Β
How Allswell Works With Sentara Community Plan
Allswell aims to make the insurance process as seamless as possible for you. We bill the Sentara Community Plan directly, so you don't have to manage claims. Before your first session, our team verifies your benefits and provides a clear cost estimate so you're not faced with any surprise bills.
For general questions about your coverage, you can reach Sentara member services at the number on the back of your insurance card.
Service areas
Allswell is licensed in Virginia. Because the Sentara Community Plan is Virginia's Medicaid program, members must be Virginia residents and physically located in Virginia at the time of their session. Your therapist will also be licensed in Virginia.
How to verify that your Sentara Community Plan covers Allswell
To see whether you qualify for services, you can book a free consultation with our team. We'll verify your coverage and let you know whether your plan is in-network with Allswell before you schedule your first session.
You can also call the member services number on the back of your Sentara Community Plan card and ask whether Allswell is an in-network provider for outpatient mental health services.
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy Covered by Sentara Community Plan
Allswell is here to make affirming care more accessible. The Sentara Community Plan covers your therapy, no matter your reasons for seeking care. Whether you're looking for LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, gender-affirming support, or help navigating identity, coming out, relationships, or minority stress, your Sentara Community Plan can cover it.
Every Allswell therapist is vetted for LGBTQ+ competency and understands the nuances of queer experiences, including the ways identity intersects with trauma, relationships, and everyday life. For clients in parts of Virginia where affirming providers can be harder to find locally, that access can make a real difference.
What You'll Pay With Sentara Community Plan
Cost shouldn't have to be a barrier to finding care that truly fits. Most Virginia Medicaid members pay $0 or a very small copay per session with Allswell. You'll also have access to the same Allswell therapists as everyone else.
How to Start Therapy With Allswell Using Sentara Community Plan
Getting started is the same process for all Allswell clients, and our team handles the insurance side for you.
Step 1: Book a free consultation
Schedule a 15-to-20-minute call with one of our Care Coordinators. You can book through our website, email us at hello@joinallswell.com, or call 443-543-8367. This call is free, and there's no commitment.
Step 2: Verify your coverage

Step 3: Get matched with a therapist
Based on what you share in your consultation, we'll connect you with a therapist whose experience, approach, and availability fit your needs. Every Allswell therapist is trained in LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma-informed care.
Step 4: Complete your intake
You'll fill out a brief intake through our secure client portal. This helps your therapist prepare for your first conversation.
Step 5: Start therapy
Your first session (your Welcome Session) is 60 minutes. After that, ongoing sessions are 45 minutes, typically on a weekly basis. All sessions happen through secure, HIPAA-compliant video.
