Affirming, trauma-informed therapy shouldn't be out of reach because of cost. If you have Medicaid in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC, your therapy sessions at Allswell are fully covered with no out-of-pocket cost.Β

That means you can access the same licensed, LGBTQ+ affirming therapists and the same quality of care as any other Allswell client, without worrying about a bill after each session.

Does Medicaid Insurance Cover Online Therapy?

Yes. Most state Medicaid programs cover online therapy, including video-based sessions like the ones Allswell provides.Β

Telehealth coverage through Medicaid expanded significantly after 2020, and all three states where Allswell currently operates (Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC) cover telehealth mental health services for Medicaid members.Β

As long as your Medicaid managed care plan is in-network with Allswell, your sessions are covered.

How Allswell Works With Medicaid Insurance

Allswell is in-network with Medicaid managed care plans in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. That means your therapy sessions are billed directly to your Medicaid plan, and you don't have to submit claims, file paperwork, or pay anything upfront. Our team handles the billing on your end.

Before your first session, we'll verify your Medicaid coverage and confirm that everything is in place. If there are any issues with your plan or enrollment, we'll let you know before you start so there are no surprises.

Medicaid members at Allswell receive the same therapists, the same session lengths, and the same clinical care as clients with commercial insurance or those paying out of pocket. The only difference is that your sessions are fully covered by your insurance plan.

How to verify your Medicaid plan covers Allswell

The easiest way to verify is to book a free consultation with our team. During that call, we'll verify your Medicaid coverage and let you know whether your specific plan is in-network with Allswell.

If you'd like to verify on your own first, you can call the member services number on the back of your Medicaid card and ask whether Allswell Health is an in-network provider for outpatient mental health services. Here are the general member services lines for each state's Medicaid program:

What Medicaid Typically Covers at Allswell

Medicaid plans in Maryland, Virginia, and DC generally cover individual therapy sessions, which is the core of what Allswell provides. This includes both your initial 60-minute Welcome Session and ongoing 45-minute follow-up sessions.

All of our therapy is LGBTQ+ affirming and trauma-informed, and Medicaid covers it the same way it covers any other mental health service. That includes therapy focused on identity exploration, gender-affirming support, minority stress, relationships, coming out, and any other concern you want to bring to a session.

What You'll Pay With Medicaid Insurance

If your Medicaid plan is in-network with Allswell, your sessions are fully covered. Most Medicaid members pay nothing out of pocket for therapy, with no copays, no deductibles, and no coinsurance.

This applies to both your Welcome Session and all ongoing sessions. There are no hidden costs and no bills after the fact. If anything about your coverage changes, we'll let you know.

How to Start Affirming LGBTQ+ Therapy With Allswell Using Medicaid

Getting started with Allswell on Medicaid takes a few steps, most of which our team handles for you.

Step 1: Book a free consultation

Schedule a 15-to-20-minute call with one of our Care Coordinators. You can book through our website, email us at hello@joinallswell.com, or call 443-543-8367. This call is free, and there's no commitment.

Step 2: Verify your coverage

Step 3: Get matched with a therapist

Based on what you share in your consultation, we'll connect you with a therapist whose experience, approach, and availability fit your needs. Every Allswell therapist is trained in LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma-informed care.

Step 4: Complete your intake

You'll fill out a brief intake through our secure client portal. This helps your therapist prepare for your first conversation.

Step 5: Start therapy

Your first session (your Welcome Session) is 60 minutes. After that, ongoing sessions are 45 minutes, typically on a weekly basis. All sessions happen through secure, HIPAA-compliant video.
